More than a million Florida residents legally carry concealed weapons today and the number will increase substantially July 1.
That is bad news for criminals.
Florida will drop the requirement to have a permit to carry a concealed weapon and, because it is the 26th state to do so, the majority of states now allow people to carry weapons without bureaucratic permission, but with restrictions.
“Constitutional carry is in the books,” Gov. Ron DeSantis said.
“I think it gives the opportunity to give law-abiding citizens to be able to take care of themselves because we can’t be everywhere,” Jacksonville Sheriff T.K. Waters said.
“The Constitution protects gun ownership rights and the ability to carry a firearm. Violent criminals are not applying for a state permit to carry a gun,” Clay County Sheriff Michelle Cook said.
Only two types of people objected to the new law – criminals and liberals.
Liberals favor criminals over victims by supporting gun control, cutting police budgets and releasing criminals from custody.
Criminals in Florida, however, will find more victims prepared to defend their lives and property.
Guns are used thousands of times each year for those purposes, as researcher John Lott has documented in books and other publications. Liberals have no answer other than to refer to Lott as “discredited” whenever they mention him.
Discredited president Joe Biden constantly beats the drum for gun control and most Democrats follow his lead, mindlessly echoing his false talking points.
Biden is not the only Democrat to warp the truth. President Obama claimed that mass shootings don’t happen in other countries. Lott’s research showed that the United States was not even in the top 10 of countries with mass shootings during Obama’s term.
Liberals callously seize upon any tragedy, using it to exploit their gun control agenda, which is to disarm victims and protect criminals. It would more accurately be termed “victim control.”
They also focus on certain types of guns they refer to inaccurately as “assault weapons,” when the guns they refer to are used for crimes relatively infrequently.
“Mass murders” is another term frequently mischaracterized by liberals. It also is a type of crime in which armed citizens can save lives.
Mass shootings are .01 percent of homicides. From 1964 to 2019, 1,196 people were killed in “mass shootings.” From 2017 to 2019,1,397 were shot and killed in Chicago. No outrage from the left about the Chicago victims..
Liberals also fixate on background checks. Background checks of the kind gun-grabbers are demanding would not have prevented a single mass public shooting in this century. In addition, over the years from 2000 to 2015, states that had universal background checks had twice the rate of mass public shootings as those that didn’t have such a law.
In short, the faux outrage from the left about Florida’s new law is partisan rhetoric, not concern for lives.
