Call to Action: Have your voice heard about Title IX and the fight for women’s sports

The Biden Administration’s recent Notice of Proposed Rulemaking (NPRM) on Title IX has sparked controversy and heated debates across the country. Title IX is a federal civil rights law that prohibits discrimination based on sex in education programs and activities that receive federal funding. It is best known for its impact on women’s sports, as it has helped to level the playing field and create more opportunities for female athletes. However, the proposed changes to Title IX have many concerned about the potential impact on women’s sports and the rights of transgender athletes.

The proposed changes to Title IX would expand the meaning of sex discrimination and force schools to allow students of the opposite biological sex to play on athletic teams consistent with their espoused gender identity. This means that biological males who identify as female would be allowed to compete against biological females in sports, potentially giving them a physical advantage due to their biological differences. This has sparked concerns about the fairness of competition and the potential for harm to female athletes.

Duval County Citizens Defending Freedom is calling on its members to make public comments in opposition to the proposed changes to Title IX. Public comments are a response authored by members of the public on proposed regulations. These responses must be individualized and provide specific reasons or personal anecdotes that have the intent to influence federal agency rulemaking.

Under federal law, the U.S. Department of Education is mandated to evaluate and react to the comments they receive. Therefore, the more comments that are submitted, the more likely the agency may be to reevaluate or delay the NPRM.

The public comment period for the proposed changes to Title IX ends on May 15, 2023. For maximum effect, Duval County Citizens Defending Freedom encourages its members to write from their own unique perspective as to how the proposed regulation would threaten the role of parental rights, cause lifelong trauma to children, and compromise religious and civil liberties.

This is important and your voice is important due to proposed changes to Title IX that have sparked controversy and heated debates across the country. While the intent to create more opportunities for transgender athletes is admirable, the potential impact on women’s sports and the rights of female athletes cannot be ignored. It is important for concerned citizens to make their voices heard and participate in the public comment period to ensure that their concerns are addressed and considered by the U.S. Department of Education.
